Swat Motorway inauguration announced

PESHAWAR - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan Tuesday directed for acceleration of the pace of work on Swat Motorway to open it for all kind of vehicular traffic before the upcoming Eidul Fitr.

He said that formal inauguration of the Swat Motorway would be made by Prime Minister Imran Khan himself after Eidul Fitr. He said he himself would visit the under construction motorway soon to inspect the pace and quality of work on the project. The review meeting on Swat Motorway was held here in Chief Minister’s Secretariat with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair.

Besides, the Provincial Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Akbar Ayub Khan, the Secretary C&W, Managing Director (MD) Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (PkHA) and other authorities attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the Managing Director, PkHA gave detailed briefing regarding Swat Motorway.

The meeting was given detailed briefing on five interchanges including Mingora-Kanju Interchange, Malam Jabba Interchange, Sher Palam Interchange, Matta-Khawazakhela Interchange and Bagh Dheri Interchange respectively.

The meeting was told that with the completion of Swat Motorway, traffic burden on National Highway (N-95) would curtail while Provincial Highway (S-3) Swat would be linked with National Highway through high speed transport corridor.

The meeting was further told that Swat Motorway would save the journey time of the people and the residents of Malakand and Swat will get easy access to Swat Motorway. The meeting was also told that the motorway will also promote agriculture economy in Swat while the farmers will also get access to market. Swat Motorway will also help promote tourism in Malakand, Swat, Dir and Chitral districts of the province.

The meeting was also given detailed briefing on Phase-III of Swat Motorway and cross section features of the Phase-III of the motorway. The chief minister was told that a special interchange would be constructed for Malam Jabba that is emerging as international tourist resort that will make the access of tourists to the spot easy.

The meeting was told that the motorway between Matta-Khawazakhela Interchange and Sher Palam Interchange would be utilized as bypass and through linking highways, the local population would be given direct access to the motorway.

The meeting was told that 100 percent work on one tunnel of the Swat Motorway has been completed. He said that for first-time in the history of the province, a motorway has been constructed for the promotion of tourism. The motorway, he said would be comprised of linking highways and service roads.

The chief minister said that Swat Motorway beside domestic tourisms will also play crucial role in providing access to foreign tourists in visiting touristic spots.

The chief minister said that last interchange on Swat Motorway instead at Fatehpur would be constructed at Bagh Dheri to prevent the people from passing through the huge traffic at Fatehapur Bazaar and they would have not any difficulty in reaching the touristic spot.

He said that the 80-kilometer long Swat Motorway from Karnal Sher Khan Swabi Interchange would prove useful for access to touristic spots for tourists that would earn receipts for the province.

The chief minister further said that with the cooperation of Tourism Department, tourist guide system would also be made possible on the Swat Motorway and maximum facilities would be provided to tourists in the province.
