Heavy clashes between Yemeni Huthis and Presidential Forces

SANAA: At least 48 people have been killed and 120 wounded due to heavy clashes between Iran backed Yemeni Houthis and Presidential forces.

Presidential forces have broken a siege of Taiz city which is the Yemen’s third biggest city and regained the control.

Army official said “We announce that our forces on Friday night broke the rebel siege on southwestern areas of Taiz after beating Shiite Houthi rebels and their allies loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.”

Medical officials claimed that more than 100 fighters were killed from both sides, mostly from Houthi rebels who were hit by Saudi-led airstrikes.

The city was seized by Houthis in which 250,000 residents were trapped since May.

Yemeni Vice President Khaled Bahah claimed that forces have captured the western entrance of Taiz and routes have been opened to supply humanitarian assistance.

He also claimed that the government is preparing an aid convey for Taiz and 1,000 troops to impose security in Taiz to control law and order.

Syrian President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, telephoned his military commander and congratulated him.

The Houthi rebels took the charge of Capital Sanaa in September 2014 and government is now based in Aden.

A military coalition was launched to counter Houthis with the help of Saudi Arabia in March 2015.

The country is facing war since September 2014 in which at least 6,000 people have been killed and millions have been displaced.
