Pakistan's largest science event being attended by scientists from 45 countries

KARACHI, Dec 14 (APP): Pakistan's largest international science conference, entitled 'the 14th Eurasia Conference on Chemical Sciences (EuAsC2S-14)' will be opened on Thursday at the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi.
Over 740 scientists, including 150 foreign researchers from some 45 countries are participating in this event, making it one of the largest science conferences in Pakistan in recent years.

The conference, which is organized under the umbrella of ICCBS, University of Karachi, will address key issues related to chemical sciences, such as nanochemistry, food and drug chemistry, medicinal chemistry and agro chemistry, Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, former Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) and ex Federal Minister for Science and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary,
Director ICCBS, told media at a briefing.
On the occasion, Prof. Dr. Alan Kreif (Belgium), Prof. Gunther Shawarz (Germany), Prof. Ionnis Gerothanasis (Greece) and Prof. Jiri Barek (Chezh Republic) also expressed their views.
Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman said that the programme includes ten technical sessions and side events to encourage broad participation across disciplines and themes.

The objective is to provide young scientists unique opportunity to meet and interact with leaders in their respective fields and learn from their experience, he said, adding that this conference is expected to help Pakistan in its efforts to attain self-sufficiency in food and drug production.
'This international conference series has a tradition to bring world-leading chemists including Nobel Laureates, especially young scientists, especially young scholars from developing countries, to exchange scientific chemical information, accelerate research activities in their countries, and forge global partnerships for the common benefit of humanity and rapid development of the countries particularly in the Eurasia continents', he said.
Talking about the importance of chemistry, Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said that importance of chemistry in today's world can hardly be overemphasized because of its enormous role in science and technology for the betterment and sustainability of the human society.
He added that it has become an interdisciplinary branch of science with its leading role in medicines, bio-sciences, agriculture, drug development, ecology, environment, food science, information technology etc.
The EuAsC2S-14 program includes Plenary, and Invited lectures from many eminent scientists around the world, he informed the media personnel. Session lectures and posters by budding young researchers will present future of chemical sciences, he maintained.
