CPEC Special Protection Unit passed out

KARACHI: (APP) More than 700 police personnel, including 384 from the Special Protection Unit established for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), passed out from the police training centre, Razzakabad, here on Wednesday.
Speaking as a chief guest at the passing out parade held at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre Razzakabad, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, A.D. Khawaja, said 1,200 personnel have been recruited in the Special Protection Unit for the protection of CPEC.
CPEC security fund to be established
In all, 707 police personnel, including 384 from the Special Protection Unit, passed out on the occasion.
The IGP said the CPEC is of great significance for the economic development and progress of the country as well as of the people of Pakistan.
He said the police personnel who have acquired anti-terrorism training are the asset of the force, adding that the Sindh police are committed to root out terrorism and cleanse the society of criminal elements.

A.D. Khawaja also spoke of the sacrifices of the Sindh Police in the fight against terror. This has also enhanced the morale of the police force, he added.
Commandant Peer Muhammad Shah lauded the steps taken for the welfare of the police personnel, which included increase in funds for the heirs of the martyred policemen from Rs. two million to Rs. five million and initiation of benevolent funds for the widows of the police personnel.
