Nation celebrates Independence Day

The nation celebrates Independence Day today with renewed resolve to work with the spirit of Pakistan Movement to make the country a true Islamic welfare state.

The day dawned with thirty-one gun salute in the Federal Capital and twenty-one gun salute in the provincial headquarters.

Prayers were offered for security and progress of Pakistan and well being of the people.

National flag is hoisting at all important public and private buildings.

The main feature of the celebrations would be a national flag hoisting ceremony at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad. President Mamnoon Hussain would be the chief guest on the occasion.

At 8.59 in the morning, sirens will be sounded and the moving traffic would come to a halt as mark of national solidarity.

President Mamnoon Hussain and caretaker Prime Minister retired Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk will unfurl the national flag and the participants sing the national anthem together.

The President will also address the ceremony on the auspicious occasion.

Similar flag hoisting ceremonies would also be held at provincial, divisional and district headquarters level throughout the country.

Radio Pakistan has also prepared comprehensive programmes to celebrate the day.

On the auspicious occasion of 71st Independence Day Pakistan Air Force has launched a new National song, Ay Watan Teray Liyay, to promote patriotism.

The song has been sung by famous vocalist Khadeeja Haider and revolves around two characters who decide to serve the country instead of availing opportunity of visiting abroad.
