Pakistan extends economic outreach to African countries

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Tanzania have signed two Memorandum ofUnderstanding (MoUs) to enhance coordination in economic fields and elevatebilateral relations to higher levels.

The development came during a meeting between Pakistani High Commissionerto the United Republic of Tanzania Muhammad Saleem and United Republic ofTanzania Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko Kabudi.

According to details, the first MoU was signed on bilateral politicalconsultations, while the second is related to the establishment of a jointcommission on economic cooperation between both the countries.

Officials privy tot he details said that the MoUs shall provide theinstitutional framework for structured dialogue between the two countriesthat are also working on various other initiatives, including the exchangeof high key officials visits, trade delegations and people-to-peoplecontacts to strengthen existing ties.It may be mentioned here that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Tanzaniaduring FY20 was recorded $154 million. The Pakistani business community hasinvested $490 million in the Tanzanian economy providing employment for5,400 Tanzanian nationals.

Both countries are also working on realising trade and investment potentialfollowing a Tanzanian trade delegation’s recent visit to Pakistan inNovember 2020.
