JERUSALEM – Israeli Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman has announced hisresignation in protest to yesterday’s Gaza ceasefire, calling it acapitulation to terror.
In a statement in Jerusalem, Avigdor Lieberman said his resignation alsowithdraws his far-right Israel Beitenu party from the coalition that wouldleave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with control of just 61 of the 120seats in parliament a year before Israel’s next election.
Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has failed to agree on any action onfighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
Kuwait and Bolivia had moved a resollution calling for closed SecurityCouncil consultations on the issue.
Kuwaiti Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi told reporters after the closedconsultations that we were not able to find a solution to the situation inGaza because of divisions in the most powerful U.N. body.
