ISLAMABAD: China has suddenly removed Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong from his high-profile position in a move that has stunned diplomatic observers worldwide. 

The announcement came on Tuesday through the State Council in a routine list of official appointments and dismissals. 

No reason was provided for the abrupt sacking, fueling intense speculation in international media. 

This decision fits squarely into President Xi Jinping’s ongoing zero-tolerance anti-corruption campaign. 

Sun Weidong, aged 59, had served as vice minister since November 2022, overseeing critical Asian affairs. 

His career includes stints as China’s ambassador to Pakistan from 2013 to 2017 and to India from 2019 to 2022.
