Law ministry provides update on General Elections

In Islamabad, the Caretaker Law Minister, Ahmad Irfan Aslam, convened a meeting with provincial law ministers to address matters concerning the forthcoming general elections. During this gathering, all the law ministers stressed the importance of upholding democratic principles and ensuring the smooth execution of the elections. There was unanimous agreement that the constitution should be considered in its entirety.

According to the statement, the constitution grants exclusive authority to the Election Commission of Pakistan for overseeing general elections and announcing their dates. The provincial law ministers emphasized the necessity of holding general elections for the National and four provincial assemblies concurrently to promote unity among all constituent regions.

The discussion emphasized the government's commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections in Pakistan while adhering to democratic governance principles. This meeting followed Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar's recent statement affirming that only the Election Commission of Pakistan has the authority to announce election dates.

PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar also mentioned during an interview with a private news channel that the Election Commission would determine the upcoming elections' date. He explained that Parliament had passed a law granting this power to the election commission. He assured that the elections would proceed in accordance with existing laws and that there was no intention to prolong the caretaker government's tenure.
