Trump signs order authorizing sanctions against foreign election meddling

The United States President Donald Trump has signed an executive order authorizing sanctions against any country or individuals found interfering in US elections.

The US National Security Adviser, John Bolton told reporters in Washington that sanctions could include freezing assets, restricting foreign exchange transactions, limiting access to US financial institutions, and prohibiting US citizens from investing in companies.

He said sanctions could be imposed during or after an election, based on the evidence gathered.
