Nawaz Sharif to be on parole till Kulsoom's burial: Fayazul Hasan Chohan

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Fayazul Hasan Chohan said on Wednesday that former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt. (R) Safdar would be on parole till burial of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, former first lady.
Speaking at 'Meet the Press' programme here at Lahore Press Club, he added that normally, the Home Secretary could allow a parole of 12 hours to a prisoner, and in case of a longer period, the decision was made by the provincial cabinet. However, the government had taken a principled decision to issue parole to the detained members of bereaved family till burial of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
Responding to reporters' queries, the Provincial Information Minister added that leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and ministers would also participate in the funeral prayer of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
He said the government would take effective steps for promotion of art and culture, adding that he was well aware of the problems being faced by working journalists.
To another question, he said that he had already held meetings in his department regarding betterment of journalists' community and took several decisions, which would be implemented after formulation of proper legislation. He assured that PTI government would work seriously on new housing schemes for journalists, besides resolving the issues of F and B Blocks of existing journalist colony in Lahore.
Fayazul Hasan Chohan also mentioned that Punjab Health Minister also talked about issuing Health Cards to working journalists as well, adding that Punjab government would introduce even a better 'Insaf, Sehat Programme' in Punjab than that launched by previous provincial PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The Punjab Information Minister assured that he would chair separate meetings with electronic and print media on monthly basis and resolve their problems accordingly.
Regarding Punjab Cabinet, he said that there would be no extension in the provincial cabinet.
Under the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, he said, they were applying their energies in serving the masses without any distinction and vowed to take forward the vision and mission of Imran Khan for a better and changed Pakistan.
Fayazul Hasan Chohan said, "We are well aware of the difficulties of common man and it is top priority of our policies to bring visible and pleasant change in the lives of those who are below poverty line and deprived from basic necessities of life."
He said the government was committed to uproot corruption and ensure transparency with the objective to observe hundred percent merit and supremacy of law. He said jobs would be provided on merits and new local body system would be evolved to address the grievances of masses at grass root level.
