Pakistan to host International Cotton Advisory Committee

ISLAMABAD (APP): Pakistan would host the 75th plenary meeting of International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) here from October 30 to discuss international issues of vital importance relevant to the world of cotton industry.

Cotton production witnesses increase in Pakistan

According to press statement issued here, the meeting which is scheduled to be held from October 30 to November 4, would provide opportunity to the cotton stakeholders to discuss issues related to cotton production and consumption.

ICAC is an association of governments of cotton producing, consuming and trading countries, having 43 members, the press statement said adding that Pakistan became the member of the Committee in September 1948.

Pakistan attaches importance to ICAC meeting as it is the 4th largest cotton producing country and 3rd largest consumer of cotton in the world, the press statement added.

Cotton exports worth $ 11 registered in FY 2015-16

It added that the textile sector of the country serves as backbone of economy as it contributes 56% of total exports and 8% to GDP.

The Ministry of Textile Industry would host the conference in coordination with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the statement added.
