Fake Dawn story: Interior Ministry clarifies report

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (APP): A spokesman of the Ministry of Interior on Saturday asked a section of the media to refrain from giving its own interpretations to the Interior Minister's words to the committee probing the fabricated news story.

With reference to some news items appearing in a section of press, the Interior Ministry clarifies that the committee, probing the fabricated news story had asked the Interior Minister, during his briefing to it that the editor and the staffer of daily Dawn be requested to appear before it for recording their statements, the spokesman stated in a statement.

The spokesman also pointed out that at no point during his press conference the Interior Minister criticized daily Dawn for the news story. He said the Interior Minister's statement on the false story probe was exactly in line with the government's stance.

"Kite-flying and assumptive analysis on this issue of national importance would negatively impact the ongoing probe," the spokesman added.

He said ethics of international journalism and reporting should be followed in letter and spirit by all the media houses and watchdogs until the completion of the inquiry into the matter.
