Supreme Court allows Poultry and Cattle export to Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: (APP) Supreme Court allows Poultry and Cattle export to Afghanistan

 

The Supreme Court on Thursday suspended the Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict regarding ban on export of poultry and cattles to Afghanistan.

 

The court remarked that the PHC decision in the case was not correct as the high courts had no authority to take suo-moto notices.

 

The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case filed against PHC verdict.

 

It is to mention that the PHC on a suo-moto notice fixed the prices of poultry and meat and also banned smuggling and export of poultry and cattles to Afghanistan. The Poultry Association of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa challenged the PHC decision before the Supreme Court. Later, meat association also become party in the case.

 

During the course of proceedings, Kamaran Murtaza appeared on behalf of Poultry Association while Advocate Azhar Rashes appeared on behalf of Animal and Meat Association.

 

The court suspended the verdict after hearing the arguments of both lawyers and stated that high courts have no jurisdiction to take suo-moto notices.

 

Later, the court suspended the PHC order and disposed of the case.
