World Bank to finance major infrastructure development projects in Karachi

KARACHI: (APP) KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed said the World Bank has assured support and cooperation in long term and short term infrastructure development projects for Karachi. Every positive and constructive recommendation for the betterment of the city would be welcomed.
He expressed these views after meeting with a delegation of World Bank that represented by financial analyst Rebecca Hrvatin, Project Director and lead analytical manager for Asia & Pacific Anna Hughes, Associate Director YeeFarm Phua and others called on him on Wednesday.
In the meeting KMC was represented by the financial advisor Afaq Mirza, Sr. Director Municipal Services Masood Alam and other officers.
Administrator Karachi Laeeq Ahmed on this occasion said the visit of the delegation of World Bank experts was in connection to the Karachi Transformation Strategy (KTS) on which the bank was working with the objective to transform Karachi into green, resilient metropolitan city and conducting different studies including Fiscal Management Assessment for Karachi.
He said Karachi is not only one of the world’s megacities and Pakistan’s biggest city with various estimates placing the metropolitan region’s population in excess of 20million but it is also the country’s economic powerhouse. To a large extent the nation’s growth is closely linked with the Karachi’s ability to leverage the productivity gains associated with urbanization. The core of a city transformation process is a shared vision and an integrated planning document.
