Pope Francis meets Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill in Havana after 1000 years.
HAVANA: This is the first meeting in  1,000 years and an historic development in thousand years old schism that divided Christianity.

Both leaders embraced each other and exchange gifts.

They signed joint declaration on religious unity and urged Europe to maintain its faithfulness to its Christian roots.

Russian Orthodox claimed that Islamic extremists are attacking on Christians in Middle East and Africa.

They urged international community to take action to prevent more displacements in Middle East.

An attempt for such meeting was also made earlier but Russian Orthodox remained suspicious.

The two leaders claimed that this meeting will eliminate tensions between Catholics and Orthodox.

Pope Francis will also visit Mexico for 5 days in near future.
