ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has been elected to the United Nations Economic andSocial Council for a three-year term starting 1st January 2019 duringelection held at the United Nations General Assembly in New York today(Wednesday).According to Foreign Office Spokesperson, Pakistan has secured 175 votesout of a total of 186 votes cast and it is one of the four countrieselected to this important body from the Asia Pacific region.ECOSOC is one of the principal organs of the United Nations mandated withthe important tasks of coordination, policy review and formulatingrecommendations on economic, social and environmental issues, as well asfor implementation of all important Sustainable Development Goals.
