BREAKING: Veto Power China blocks Indian bid to put JeM Chief Masood Azhar on UNSC terror list

ISLAMABAD – China on Wednesday blocked India’s bid to designateJaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a ‘global terrorist’ for the fourthtime.

China put a technical hold on a proposal in the UN Security Council to banhim just before the close of the deadline, news agency PTI reported.

Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), has been on the radar of countries,counter-terrorism organisations and the United Nations for the terrorattacks in India.AdvertisingAdvertising

India had listed Azhar as a ‘most-wanted terrorist and has been trying forthe past two decades at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) todeclare him a ‘global terrorist’ and add his name to the counter-terrorismsanctions list, a decision supported by all member countries except China.

China had blocked the move at least thrice before.

The Ministry of External Affairs has expressed its disappointment in theoutcome and said it will continue to pursue “all possible avenues to ensureterrorist leaders are brought to justice”.
