Pakistan decided to bring in two replacement fast bowlers due to Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah experiencing minor injuries during the rain-affected Asia Cup Super 4 match against India, as reported by ARY News.
As per the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) statement, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been summoned as standby fast bowlers in response to the injuries sustained by Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah during the India match.
The statement emphasized that this step is purely precautionary, aimed at safeguarding the players' fitness and well-being ahead of the upcoming ICC Men's Cricket World Cup next month.
It was mentioned in the statement that Haris and Naseem will continue to be monitored by the team's medical staff.
The statement concluded by stating that the team management would only seek replacements from the ACC technical committee if Haris or Naseem are declared unfit to play for the next seven days.
Pakistan faced setbacks as Haris Rauf suffered a strain and had to withdraw from the tournament, while Naseem Shah also left the field with discomfort in his hand.
Notably, in a rain-affected Super Four match of the 2023 Asia Cup on the reserve day, Virat Kohli and the returning KL Rahul played unbeaten centuries, guiding India to a dominant 228-run victory over Pakistan. Kohli scored 122, and Rahul made 111, resulting in India posting 356-2, a total that proved unassailable as they bowled out Pakistan for 128 in the 50-over contest in Colombo
