After Pakistani sports presenter Zainab Abbas departed from India in response to a complaint made by an Indian lawyer regarding her previous "anti-Hindu" statements, she has now issued an apology for those remarks.
Abbas, who was in India as part of her role as a presenter for the ongoing ICC Men's World Cup 2023, left the country on October 9, citing "personal reasons" according to the international cricket body.
In a statement posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), Zainab expressed her gratitude for the opportunities to travel and present the sport she loves, and this particular assignment held special significance for her.
Reflecting on her time in India, Abbas noted that her daily interactions were warm, friendly, and as she had anticipated, filled with a sense of familiarity. She clarified that she had not been asked to leave nor deported from the country.
However, she also mentioned feeling "intimidated and scared" due to the unfolding online reaction, despite there being no immediate threat to her safety.
Concerns from her family and friends on both sides of the border prompted her decision to take some time and space for reflection on the situation.
