ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government initiative of Assets Recovery Unit has achieved a first major access.
Rs 530 million illegally sent abroad have been recovered through its Assets Recovery Unit (ARU).
Well informed sources told that the recovered amount of Rs 530 million has been deposited into the national exchequer while more recoveries are also on the cards in the near future.
“The amount has been recovered after tracing offshore properties and bank accounts”, the sources said.
The major recovery was done from Singapore’s off-shore accounts but due to some reasons, the details in this regard are not being made public.
It is pertinent to note here that, Prime Minister Imran Khan in his first address in the National Assembly after assuming charge of his office, had vowed to bring back the looted money.
He promised strict accountability of the corrupt people and insured people of Pakistan that he will work for their betterment.
Later in 2018, the government had established a task force to bring back money illegally shifted abroad from Pakistan.
The unit comprises officials from National Accountability Bureau and Federal Investigation Agency, he added.
