FIR registered for abusing and insulting Pakistan Army

*MULTAN: *A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged for abusing Pakistan Army and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Bajwa.

FIR was lodged against a man at the Sadar Police Station in Bahawalpur under for insulting and abusing Pakistan Army on the social media website: Facebook.

The police said the FIR lodged under Section 124-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 29-D of the Telegraph Act on the complaint of Bismillah Khan against Abdul Qayyum Arayin for posting obnoxious messages and photos on his Facebook account against Pakistan Army and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

The complainant said he and his two friends, Sajid Ali and Mohammad, were checking news feed on the social media website when the post caught their attention.

He added that he personally knows Abdul Qayyum and thought that his post may induce people towards hatred and disrespectful behaviour against the state institution.

He demanded that strict action be taken in accordance with the law against the accused.

ASI Babar Ali Shah told the media that investigation was underway on the issue.

Section 124-A is related to sedition, which states that whoever brings into hatred or contempt against the federal and provincial governments shall be punished with up to imprisonment for life and fine may be added.
