LAHORE (APP): Inspector General of Police Punjab Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera approved one of the three uniform samples designed for the SPU and the procurement process of the uniforms will be completed in the second week of September after final approval from Cabinet Sub-Committee.
Presiding over a meeting of police officials held here on Thursday at Central Police Office, he said that Special Protection Unit (SPU) will be fully functional by the end of October this year.
The meeting discussed the recruitment and training process, provision of vehicles and security gears to the Special Protection Unit (SPU), established to ensure the security of foreign experts working on various development projects in Punjab.
DIG SPU, Agha Yousuf briefed the IGP that recruitment process of 3,338 security constables out of approved 4,076 posts has been completed while the remaining 583 posts will be filled by October 10 this year. Summary to recruit 5,000 more security constables has been submitted to the government for approval, he said and added that 264 drivers and 33 wireless operators are also hired for the SPU.
Recruitment of 73 retired army personnel in the SPU at ranks from head constables to inspector is already done, he added.
It was further briefed to the IGP that training of 3,298 security constables is undergoing in four police training schools of Punjab while training of the next batch will begin by the last week of October.
Additional IGPs and other senior police officers also attended the meeting.
