Sindh IGP directs to launch crackdown against Gutka business

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP-Sindh), A.D. Khowaja has ordered each of the Zonal DIGs to submit detailed reports about FIRs registered and consequent actions taken against manufacturers and retailers of "Gutka," a concoction of hazardous chemical material causing oral cancer among the users.
The police chief here on Wednesday directed the officials to also share with him the status of relevant cases at the local courts and ratio of courts' orders compliance in the province.
IGP - Sindh taking notice of media reports about alleged connivance of police with the "gutka mafia" in Karachi in particular and other parts of the province in general directed the Zonal DIGs to investigate the matter and take stern action against officials and staffers found involved in supporting the criminals.
A.D. Khowaja also directed district SSPs to ensure an effective and equally comprehensive action against all those involved, in any manner, in the gutka business.
He warned that any failure in compliance to his orders will result in stringent action against the SHOs of the concerned area. (APP)
