BEIJING : President Xi Jinping said the new progress has been made by theShanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) since the accession of Pakistan.
On behalf of leaders of the SCO member states, Xi made the remarks at ajoint press conference in the coastal city of Qingdao, east China’sShandong Province.
Xi congratulated Pakistan for joining the SCO as full member, hopping thatit will enhance strength of the organization in addressing the futurechallenges.
Several documents were issued during the summit, including the QingdaoDeclaration of the Council of Heads of Member States of the SCO, and theJoint Statement of the Heads of Member States of the SCO on Promoting TradeFacilitation, Xi said.
The summit also ratified a five-year action plan for implementing theTreaty on Long-Term Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation of theSCO Member States, he noted.
“We have agreed to abide by the goals and principles of the SCO Charter,carry forward the Shanghai Spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit,equality, consultation, respect for diversity of civilizations and pursuitof common development, and jointly pursue regional peace, stability anddevelopment by promoting good-neighborliness and friendship and deepeningpractical cooperation,” Xi said.
While chairing SCO summit, President Xi said “We should, guided by theShanghai Spirit, work closely to build an SCO community with a sharedfuture, move toward a new type of international relations, and build anopen, inclusive, clean and beautiful world that enjoys lasting peace,universal security and common prosperity,” Xi said.
Xi attributed the SCO’s strength to the Shanghai Spirit, which championsmutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diversecivilizations and pursuit of common development.
“We should uphold innovative, coordinated, green, open and inclusivedevelopment,” he said, calling for resolving issues regarding unbalanceddevelopment.
He proposed common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.
“We should reject the Cold War mentality and confrontation between blocsand oppose the practices of seeking absolute security of oneself at theexpense of the security of other countries,” he said.
The president stressed open and inclusive cooperation for win-win outcomes.“We should reject self-centered, short-sighted and closed-door policies,”he said. “Equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness betweencultures should be championed”
He also called for extensive consultation, joint contribution and sharedbenefits in global governance. The Qingdao summit went beyond theories andconcepts, outlining a roadmap for concrete action, he added
