BERLIN — An American diplomat has visited Donald Trump’s ancestral home inGermany and suggested the U.S. president might someday pay a personal visit.
The U.S. consul general in Frankfurt, James W. Herman, said during a tripThursday to Kallstadt, in Germany’s southwestern wine-growing region, that“I can’t think of a better place for a visit.”
Herman’s tour included a stop at the house where Trump’s paternalgrandfather was born. Friedrich Trump, who left Germany for the U.S. as ateenager, later tried to return but was expelled for having failed toperform military service.
Herman said that no arrangements had been made for a visit by Donald Trump,according to German news agency dpa. The U.S. Embassy in Berlin said it hadno announcement to make.
