LASHKARGAH: Six policemen have been killed in a Taliban attack in Nawadistrict of southern Helmand province, officials said Thursday, Pajhwoknews has reported.
The district police chief, Capt. Amanullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News thatTaliban militants stormed a police post in Chahar Qulfan area of Nawadistrict on Wednesday night.
He said six policemen were killed and two civilians wounded in the attack.
A security officer who wished to go unnamed said that the security post wascaptured by the Taliban during the incident.
Governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, confirmed the incident in which he saidsix people suffered casualties.
Taliban also confirmed the incident. The group’s spokesman, Qari YousufAhmadi claimed the militants captured a police post in Nawa district.
He said seven policemen were killed and their weapons seized by Taliban inthe incident.
In the meantime, five policemen were killed in a similar attack innortheastern Kunduz province.
