Ali Wazir bail plea verdict announced by ATC Court

An anti-terrorism court situated in Islamabad has approved the bail request of Ali Wazir, a former legislator and co-founder of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). This decision pertains to a fraud case that had been registered at the Bara Kahu police station in the federal capital.

Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain presided over the proceedings on Monday, during which he carefully reviewed the bail petition submitted by the former Member of the National Assembly (MNA). Ultimately, the judge granted bail to Mr. Wazir, with the condition that he provide surety bonds amounting to Rs20,000.

Ali Wazir, a prominent figure within the PTM, found himself in legal trouble alongside human rights advocate Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir when they were apprehended by Islamabad police on August 20. The reason for their arrest was stated as being "for investigation." It's important to note that prior to their detention, both individuals had actively participated in a public rally organized by the PTM within the federal capital.

These arrests, however, did not go unnoticed or unchallenged, sparking widespread condemnation from local and international human rights organizations, as well as political leaders and activists who voiced their concerns through various social media platforms.

The decision made by the anti-terrorism court in granting bail to Ali Wazir marks a significant development in this case, as it allows him temporary release while the investigation into the fraud allegations continues. The PTM, known for its advocacy of Pashtun rights and social justice, has garnered substantial attention both within Pakistan and internationally, making this legal proceeding a topic of interest and debate among various stakeholders concerned with human rights and political activism
