Pakistan's national team's fast bowler Shahin Afridi has set a unique record in the 50-year history of Pakistan's One Day International cricket. In the 8th match of the ICC World Cup, Sri Lanka has set a target of 345 runs to win against Pakistan.
Fast bowler Shaheen achieved his 18th consecutive match wicket, the most significant effort by any bowler in Pakistan's ongoing matches. Earlier, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and decided to bat first, stating that they would try to set a big target against Pakistan to increase the pressure. They are determined to strive for success in the event.
In the match being played at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, Sri Lanka's openers once again failed to give the team a good start, with Kusal Perera returning on zero, and in the partnership for the second wicket, Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera scored 102 runs before Nissanka was out at 51.
Playing aggressively, Kasal Mendis was caught out by Hasan Ali at 122 runs. Hasan Ali also took the fourth wicket for Pakistan on the first ball of his next over. They caught Isuru Udana out for one run. Dhananjaya de Silva scored 25, captain Dasun Shanaka 12, and Dinesh Chandimal 10 runs, but no other player could cross double figures. Kasal Mendis with 122 and Samarawickrama with 108 runs stood out.
Sri Lanka scored 344 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. In World Cup matches against Pakistan, this is the highest score by any team. Pakistan's previous highest score against in a World Cup was 336 runs, which India achieved in the 2019 World Cup. Hasan Ali took 4 wickets, Haris Rauf took 2, and Shahin Afridi, Shadab, and Mohammad Nawaz each took 1 wicket.
