Besides highest run chase in World Cup, Pakistani players set another historic record

The big target has been achieved; for the first time, two Pakistani batters scored centuries in a World Cup match. In the match being played at Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad, Pakistan's openers once again failed to provide a good start to the team against Sri Lanka.

Kushal Perera was dismissed for zero, and in the partnership for the second wicket, Pathum Nissanka and Kushal Perera established a partnership of 102 runs, with Nissanka being out for 51 runs.

Playing aggressively, Kasun Mendis, who was caught by Hasan Ali, was dismissed for 122 runs. Hasan Ali also took the fourth wicket for Pakistan on the first ball of his next over. He dismissed Asalanka for just one run.

Dhananjaya de Silva scored 25, captain Dasun Shanaka 12, and Dinesh Chandimal 10 runs; no other player could cross double figures. Kushal Mendis remained prominent with 122 runs, and Samara Vikrama scored 108 runs.

Sri Lanka posted a total of 344 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 50 overs, making it the highest score against Pakistan in a World Cup match. Prior to this, the highest score against Pakistan in a World Cup was 336 runs, which India achieved in the 2019 World Cup. Hasan Ali took 4 wickets, Haris Rauf took 2, while Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Mohammad Nawaz took 1 wicket each.

Pakistan's innings against Sri Lanka got off to a very disappointing start. The first wicket fell at 16, and the second at 37 runs. Opener Imam-ul-Haq scored 12, and captain Babar Azam scored 10 runs before getting out.

After losing two quick wickets, Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan provided some support. A partnership of 178 runs was established between them at the third wicket. Later, Abdullah Shafique was dismissed after scoring 115 runs while Mohammad Rizwan remained not out with 131.
