RAWALPINDI – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued a questionnaire to former president Pervez Musharraf in the case of ‘holding assets beyond income’.
The questionnaire has been handed over to Pervez Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah. He has been asked to submit the reply within 15 days to the NAB investigating team.
Akhtar Shah advocate said that Musharraf will appear before the NAB if the need be.
Earlier, the NAB executive board had decided to investigate allegations against former president Pervez Musharraf for ‘holding assets beyond means’.
On February 9, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had redefined NAB’s powers, allowing the bureau to investigate former military men, especially retired generals, and directed it to investigate Musharraf for his alleged corruption while holding his office.
The February judgment had cleared a 19-year-old ambiguity in the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) due to which NAB had always shown reluctance in proceeding against retired army officers despite complaints of corruption against them.
