World urged to take action against Myanmar govt for persecution of Rohingya Muslims

The UN special rapporteur for Myanmar, Yanghee Lee has said she is troubled to hear reports of building new bases by Myanmar military in the Rakhine state.

Addressing the concluding session of an international conference on the persecution suffered by the Rohingya Muslim minority in New York on Saturday, she said communities across the country remain divided along religious and ethnic lines.

Other speakers including international legal experts, Rohingya refugees, members of the diaspora and human rights activists, have called on the international community to take collective and decisive action against the Myanmar government.
