MOSCOW: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that leaders of ISIS are in constant touch with Turkish government.
Lavrov claimed that ISIS held backdoor meetings with Turkish government to work out on a new approach in Syria.
“I do not believe that the US-led [anti-ISIS] coalition, which includes Turkey, would allow such desperate schemes to take shape,” Lavrov said.
He claimed that Turkey wants to create security zone in Syrian territory.
He also claimed that Russian airstrikes have disrupted traditional smuggling routes and this is the reason that Turkey is willing to create ISIS free zones in Syria.
Relations between Turkey and Russia deteriorated dramatically after Turkey shot down a Russian Air Force Su-24 over its borders violation. Since the downing of Russian fighter, Russia and Turkey have labelled accusations against each other regarding contacts with the ISIS and other militant groups in Syria and Iraq.
