Pakistan Railways e - ticketing: UBL and PR sign MoU

ISLAMABAD (APP): Pakistan Railways and United Bank Limited (UBL) had signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) to issue E-Ticketing to the passengers with an aim to facilitate them.

Now the passengers would be able to book their tickets though internet and mobile phones. The charges for the tickets could be paid through credit cards, debet cards, mobile banking accounts and UBL OMNI.

The passenger would receive a confirmation SMS after booking ticket and paying charges against it. The SMS would comprising the details of tickets including the ticket number, coach number, seat number, identity card number of passenger and date and time of travel.

They passengers wouldn't be required to have any manual receipt or ticket after going through the E-ticketing process. The confirmation message would be considered the train ticket. Addressing a ceremony of MoU in this regard on Wednesday, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said the PML-N

government had inherited crisis in Railways from the former government.

The current government, he said, had made sincere efforts round the clock to put the Pakistan Railways on way of development.

The annual loss of Pakistan Railways had reduced to Rs. 27 billion from Rs 37 billions, he said.

The minister said the department had earned 100 percent profit during last three years which was only Rs. 1.80 billion in 2011-12.

He said as many as 10.25 million passengers had returned in Railways system that show the confidence of public on the department.

He said Pakistan Railways had not taken any bailout package from the government to run its affairs.

Saad Rafique said that E-Ticketing system would help to overcome black ticketing.

The Asian Development Bank itself contacted the department to give soft loan in the regard, he added.
