Pakistan dispatches over 32 tons humanitarian assistance to flood-hit people of Iran

On the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, National Disaster Management Authority has dispatched a load of over 32 tons humanitarian assistance to flood-hit people of Iran.

The consignment comprises two shipments contains 500 tents, 3300 blankets and emergency medical kits.

Earlier, a Pakistani aircraft carrying first shipment of relief goods for the Iranian flood victims landed in Ahwaz today.

Pakistan's Ambassador to Iran Riffat Masood handed over the relief goods to the Iranian officials.

Iran has been hit by widespread flashfloods causing serious damages to public property and displacement of thousands of people.

As a brotherly country Pakistan decided to assist its neighbour by sending humanitarian aid to supplement Iran's own relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Iran has ordered tens of thousands of residents of the Ahvaz city to evacuate immediately as floodwaters entered the capital of oil-rich Khuzestan province.

Provincial governor, Gholamreza Shariati in a statement said he ordered the evacuation of five districts as a precautionary and preventive move to avert any danger.

He said the Dez and Karkheh rivers have for the first time joined each other near Ahvaz and are now flowing towards the city.

These two rivers are far away from each other, but the huge volume of floodwater caused them to join up.
