Pakistan to enhance economic ties with Iran

ISLAMABAD - Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs (EAD) Asad Umar said Pakistan is committed to enhance economic ties with Iran and remove the trade barriers.
He made the remarks during a meeting in Islamabad with Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost.
The minister added Pakistan is serious about removing trade barriers to expand economic cooperation with Iran.
He said the finance ministry would continue to support efforts for further strengthening of the brotherly relations between Tehran and Islamabad.
Umar expressed hope that constructive meetings would be held between Iran and Pakistan to boost trade ties.
He went on to say that Iran is an important neighbor of Pakistan with whom we have strong cultural, religious and historic ties.
Ambassador Honardoost on the occasion pointed out current trade barriers between the two countries adding that economic ties between Iran and Pakistan can be enhanced by opening of new border points, restoration of banking ties and resolving customs and border issues.
He said that opening new border posts at Gabd–Reemdan and Mand-Pishin would help to enhance trade activities between the two friendly states. Both sides also agreed to continue dialogue on Iran-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement. On the occasion next meeting of Pak-Iran Joint Economic Commission also came under discussion. - IRNA
