New oil and gas reserves discovered by OGDC in Pakistan

KOHAT – The Oil and Gas Development Corporation (OGDC) announced on Monday discovery of gas in its exploratory well Chand X-1, located in district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

OGDCL is operator of the block with a 72% stake in the field.

The discovery size is expected to be 2.2mmcfd of gas and 700bbl/day.

Last month, Pakistan Petroleum Limited along with its joint venture partners Government Holdings (Private) Limited and Asia Resources Oil Limited had made a gas and condensate discovery from its exploration well Badeel X-1 located in District Sanghar, Sindh.

Badeel X-1 was spud on May 16, 2018 and reached the final depth of 4150 meters on July 17, 2018. Based on wire line logs, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified inside massive sand.

Testing of the zone is in progress. However, actual flow potential of Badeel X-1 will be assessed after completion of the test. Moreover, the entire potential of the well was determined after evaluating and testing of its other potential hydrocarbon bearing zones.

The discovery was added to the hydrocarbon reserves, reducing the supply and demand gap in the country.
