LHC takes record of Ayyan Ali currency smuggling case in custody

LAHORE: (APP) A customs appellate tribunal of the Lahore High Court Friday adjourning hearing of plea against indictment of Supermodel Ayyan Ali in currency smuggling case till October 4 took the case record in its custody.

The tribunal comprising Justice Abdul Sami Khan heard the review petition filed by Ayyan Ali against her indictment.

During the hearing, petitioner's counsel alleged that officials had twice tempered the case record. He pleaded with the court to take the record in its custody.

At this, the court took the record in its custody and adjourned further hearing till October 4 after customs' legal advisor sought time for preparation.

Ayyan Ali through a petition had challenged her indictment orders and subsequent proceedings by the trial court in currency smuggling case. She contended that the indictment orders were not maintainable in eyes of the law and pleaded the court set aside it.

Ayyan Ali was arrested on charges of money laundering earlier in March this year after being caught with over half a million dollars by customs officials at Islamabad's Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

The supermodel was granted bail in July, 2015 after spending around four months in Adiala Jail Rawalpindi and after her judicial remand was extended 16 times.
