Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Central Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal has voiced concerns about the performance of Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) President Lt-Gen (retd) Arif Hasan, who has held the position since 2004. In a tweet, Iqbal also called upon Army Chief Gen Syed Asim Munir to step in and prevent further deterioration and embarrassment within the POA.
Iqbal, along with his tweet, shared a comprehensive chart illustrating Pakistan's underwhelming achievements in various sports competitions. He questioned Lt-Gen (Retd) Arif Hasan's accountability for these disappointing outcomes, highlighting Hasan's persistent re-election to the position despite the Supreme Court's endorsement of a two-term limit.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the adverse impact of Arif Hasan's long-standing tenure on Pakistani sports, characterizing it as disastrous. He urged Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to intervene, underlining Arif Hasan's perceived lack of accountability to any authority in Pakistan, which has had detrimental effects on the nation's sports scene.
He stressed the urgent need for a significant overhaul within the Pakistan Olympics Association, asserting that further humiliation should not be tolerated.
