The Indian Embassy has commenced the issuance of visas to Pakistani journalists for the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, and they have initiated contact with these journalists. Pakistani journalists have been directed by the Indian embassy to promptly submit their passports for visa processing.
Additionally, they have advised journalists to visit the embassy in person to expedite the visa application process.
The delay in granting visas to Pakistani journalists has drawn criticism from both Pakistani and Indian journalists. This delay is particularly significant as it pertains to coverage of the World Cup 2023, which is of great interest to cricket enthusiasts and the media alike.
It is worth noting that visa applications from Pakistani passport holders require thorough vetting by various Indian ministries, including the Home Ministry, External Affairs Ministry, and the Sports Ministry.
This is because Pakistan falls under India's prior reference category (PRC) list, necessitating a meticulous evaluation process for visa approval. This rigorous scrutiny is a standard procedure for countries on the PRC list and is aimed at ensuring the security and compliance of visa applicants.
