IHC summons attorney general in NAB prosecutor general's appointment case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Tuesday summoned the Attorney General for Pakistan to assist it in a case challenging the appointment of National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) prosecutor general.

Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani of the IHC conducted hearing on a petition filed by a citizen Shahid Orakzai challenging the appointment of NAB Prosecutor General Asghar Haider.
During the course of hearing, Justice Kiyani observed that the matter should be sent to a divisional bench as it was related to NAB.

However, the petitioner's counsel argued that he had only challenged an appointment in NAB, in which legal requirements were ignored. Asghar Haider, who was a retired Lahore High Court judge, could not work in lower courts as a prosecutor in accordance with the law.

Justice Kiyani observed that it was a constitutional matter and summoned the attorney general on next date of hearing to assist the court on it.
The case was adjourned till November 5.
