China urges US to follow path of cooperation rather than confrontation
China has urged the United States to stop actions damaging its rights and interests and follow the path of cooperation rather than confrontation.
In a meeting with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Yang Jiechi said the current China-U.S. ties are at a critical phase.
He said to guarantee bilateral relations the two countries should properly handle differences on the basis of mutual respect and expand pragmatic cooperation.
He said China will firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.
