Nawaz Sharif gets big relief from Court

In Islamabad, an accountability court has instructed authorities to release all seized properties and assets belonging to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

The court, presided over by Judge Muhammad Bashir, issued an order for the return of Nawaz's agricultural land, vehicles, and bank accounts, which were confiscated in October 2020. The confiscation included over 1,650 canals of agricultural land, a Mercedes, a Land Cruiser, and other vehicles.

In a Toshakhana reference hearing earlier in 2020, a detailed report was submitted, outlining the seizure of assets, shares, and the freezing of bank accounts. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) provided comprehensive details of Nawaz Sharif's movable and immovable assets, leading to his declaration as a proclaimed offender in September for failing to appear in court.

The report revealed his ownership of shares in various mills and multiple bank accounts, both local and foreign, with holdings in euros, dollars, and pounds.

Additionally, both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari faced allegations from the anti-corruption body for unlawfully retaining expensive vehicles gifted by foreign states and dignitaries instead of depositing them in the Toshakhana.
