ISLAMABAD - Spokesperson for the Foreign Office Dr. Mohammad Faisal says adoption of three resolutions by the main committee of the United Nations is a testimony to Pakistan’s commitment to regional and international peace and security.
In a tweet message today, he said Pakistan will continue bringing more focus on these, with a view to supporting global disarmament efforts.
These resolutions, moved by Pakistan and adopted on Thursday, focused on regional disarmament, conventional arms control at regional and sub-regional levels as well as confidence building measures in the regional and sub-regional context.
Dr Faisal said the resolutions underscored the importance of regional approaches to disarmament which complemented global disarmament efforts and stressed the need for promoting confidence-building measures for enhancing regional and international peace and security.
Earlier, the committee adopted Pakistan’s annual resolution on assuring non-nuclear weapon states against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons by a strong majority of 122 votes.
