KARACHI: The Chehlum of Nawasa-e-Rasool Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and his 72 companions is being observed throughout the country today (Friday) with religious solemnity and respect.
Zuljinah, Alam and Tazia processions will be taken out and Majalis will be held in all big or small cities and towns to pay homage to the great sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in the battle of Karbala.
As part of security measures for Chehlum gatherings, mobile phone service will remain suspended in various cities from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Pillion riding has already been banned in different cities for Thursday and Friday.
In Karachi, the main Chehlum procession will emerge from Nishtar Park at noon. The procession will culminate at Imambargah Hussainia Irania in Kharadar after passing through its traditional route of M.A Jinnah Road.
To ensure fool-proof security for the mourners, authorities sealed shops along MA Jinnah Road, and also closed roads in Saddar, Regal Chowk, Jamia Cloth Market and Bolton Market following proper scanning by bomb disposal squad.
Thousands of personnel of police and Rangers were deployed at imambargahs, procession routes and various sensitive areas to thwart any untoward incident or attempt of terrorism.
