IHC issues notice to Chairman PEMRA

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a notice to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman, Absar Alam on Wednesday for a petition seeking contempt of court proceedings to be initiated against him.
Former secretary of IHC Bar Association Waqas Malik Advocate has filed against chairman PEMRA.
The petitioner argues that Absar Alam during a press conference attempt to cast aspersion on court saying courts are performing actions that PEMRA is supposed to to do so.
He further said that Chairman PEMRA had leveled baseless allegations against courts. The petitioner pleaded IHC to initiate contempt of court proceedings against chairman PEMRA.
An IHC bench heard the petition on Wednesday. Hearing preliminary arguments of the petitioner counsel the court issued notice to Chairman PEMRA. The court also sought CD of Chairman PEMRA’s press conference from Director General PEMRA.
The court adjourned further hearing of the petition by May 16, 2017.
It is to be mentioned here that the petitioner had also blamed chairman PEMRA of committing treason. He further pleaded the court to order Article 6 proceeding against Absar Alam.
