ISLAMABAD - Smart Traffic signal system to be installed in federal capital Islamabad.
A smart traffic management to better manage and monitor the traffic in the city is being installed. The ICT is working on installing a smart signal system at the Kashmir Highway and replacing the conventional traffic signals. They have invited bids to carry out the process.
In the first phase, the smart system will be installed at signals from G-7 to G-11 Kashmir Highway including the junction of Kashmir Highway at 7th Avenue, G-9, G-10, H-11 and G-11. The new signals are fitted with optical sensors and will change the timings of the lights based on traffic volume.
These signals, with the help of the sensors, will alter the timing automatically after processing the traffic volume and lead to a fall in the need to control the traffic manually helping thousands of people using the highway.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken multiple steps for a smoother traffic flow including the smart signal project as well as revamping and broadening the road infrastructure.
Early last month, CDA issued tenders for the project after meeting the codal formalities. According to reports, the project will be carried out within one month and will cost Rs. 2.48 million.
In the first phase, Kashmir Highway will have the new signals and in subsequent phases, all other major thoroughfares will have the new signals.
