Now street crimes would be dealt under anti terrorism measures

KARACHI – The Sindh Apex Committee on Monday took significant decisions in its 23rd session.

The meeting decided to apply Anti terrorism Act provisions on the street crimes.

Meeting was chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was attended by Karachi corps commander, Sindh chief secretary, director general (DG) Rangers, Sindh inspector general of police and other officials.

The participants exchanged views on National Action Plan (NAP), investigation into anti-terrorism cases, prosecution and current security situation in the country.

It was told that legal reforms are being considered to end the rampant street crimes in the city following which anti-terror provisions will be placed on them.

The meeting decided that the crime cases would be heard by special magistrates under Section 30 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) while those convicted will be handed prison sentences ranging from three to seven years.
