LAHORE: (APP) Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) environmental expert Dr Fahad has said that trees play an important role by protecting soil from erosion, producing oxygen, storing carbon-dioxide and help control climate.
Talking to APP on Tuesday, he said forests and trees currently covered one third of the earth, adding trees play a major role in reducing carbon-dioxide content in the atmosphere.
He urged the need to stop deforestation and protect trees which were vital for life and eco-system. Dr Fahad said trees also play their role in purifying air and water.
SDPI Senior Research As sociate Shakeel Ahmed Ramay said trees contributed to environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil and supporting wildlife. He said trees control climate by moderating effects of the sun, rain, wind and leaves absorb and filter the sun's radiant energy.
