Why Amjad Sabri's family has planned to leave Pakistan

KARACHI: Legendry Qawal Amjad Sabri’s family has reportedly been planning to leave Pakistan and settle abroad in London due to the serious security concerns faced by the family members in Karachi.

Family of slain sufi qawwal Amjad Sabri has decided to leave Pakistan over security concerns.

The late sufi qawwal’s brother, Azmat Sabri, revealed they intend to shift to London in order to protect their lives.

“Although, we have spent all our lives in  Karachi, we’re now scared. Our lives are at stake in Liaquatabad since Amjad’s murder,” he said.

Azmat said, “We feel we are constantly being watched and we don’t feel comfortable living like this.”

“We feel insecure and it has become difficult living under these circumstances,” he said while adding that Amjad has left behind three daughters and two sons and the family must think about their future and well being.

“We will leave as soon as we get our visas,” said Azmat.

Amjad’s mother has sought help from the government to go abroad. However, Azmat said he would apply for visa through former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and will also request the government to bear their travel expenses.

On Sunday, former CJP visited Sabri’s house in Liaquatabad.

One of Pakistan’s best known Sufi musicians, Sabri, was gunned down in a targeted attack on June 22, 2016.

Amjad had left his home and was heading to a television studio in June last year when armed motorcyclists pulled up beside his car and fired a volley of bullets at him, killing him on the spot.
